Piano; Design and Construction
What makes a Bosendorfer a Bosendorfer and why is it so expensive?
|
Bosendorfer – Is manufactured from Finest Materials. What is the process?
- The wood and felt that is rejected for the highest quality pianos would
be used in most of the other pianos manufactured.
- Naturally dried wood: Wood is air dried naturally for 2-5 years
(depending on thickness); rather than forced to dry quickly in a
kiln which damages pores and decreases acoustic properties.
- This takes a large capital investment in materials.
- Large climate controlled rooms in the factory to store all woods
after being machined and cut.
- Cast iron plate is sand cast which is a much more expensive process.
- Plate is set outside to cure for several months before being used. This
releases internal stresses that might produce warpage in the future.
- Agraffes with stainless steel pin give more consistent termination,
provide easier tuning, and last longer.
- "T" nuts to mount pin block for added strength and stability.
